The French erotic Emmanuelle is now a classic; a series of movies were made based on the book, and the book was written by Marayat Bibidh (or Emmanuelle Arsan, which was her pen name). But was it? The book was first published anonymously in 1959, although subsequent editions claimed that the author was Marayat. Later it was finally revealed that the book was written by Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andriane, Marayat’s husband. Emmanuelle was also only the first; several more novels were eventually published under the Emmanuelle Arsan pseudonym.
